Westview House, Oakland, CA

This new 2,400 square foot custom home was designed to take full advantage of the beautiful natural landscape that surrounds it. Sited on a 5,000 square foot lot containing a redwood grove and a stream, the design opens up to the environment with a thirty-foot high pedestrian bridge, floor to ceiling windows, skylights and clerestory windows. Built by the homeowner and principal architect Charles Kahn, the design uses recycled building materials to respond to environmental concern and to create a timeless feeling.

This project was featured in Home magazine soon after its completion. In 1991 it was destroyed in the Oakland Hills firestorm.
